Rams still waiting on Carroll deal

Fri 18 Jan, 04:00 PM

Derby manager Paul Jewell has revealed he is no closer to sealing a deal with Rangers for former Manchester United goalkeeper Roy Carroll. With Steven Bywater injured, the Derby boss has had to throw inexperienced 23-year-old stopper Lewis Price into the firing line.

The Rams have been trying to complete a deal for Carroll since the opening of the transfer window but Rangers are not keen to let the Northern Irishman leave before bringing in a replacement.

"It's not Roy, it's Rangers. I understand Rangers, they are trying to bring in another goalkeeper but we can't wait forever," he added.

"It's an area I would like to bring a bit of experience in. It's not just been frustrating for me but for Roy as well. It's not Roy's fault, he's very, very keen to come."

Jewell has also revealed that Tyrone Mears is set to be out for the next three months after scans revealed the defender has a cracked shin.
