Clough buoyed by Noble capture

Manager Nigel Clough is delighted to be able to bring promising young striker Ryan Noble back to Derby.

Noble has rejoined the Rams on an initial month-long deal from Sunderland after a spell at Pride Park last season was cut short by a back injury.

He made one appearance as a substitute in a goalless draw at Swansea before returning to Wearside but Clough liked what he saw and kept tabs on the 20-year-old, who has been in prolific goalscoring form for the Black Cats' reserve team in the past two months.

"When Ryan arrived last season we labelled him as a striker with a good reputation for scoring goals, and his form in recent months for Sunderland's reserves suggests he has not lost his touch," Clough told the club's official website. "He has scored a hat-trick against Scunthorpe, four against Manchester United and also found the net against Arsenal in the past month so he certainly arrives here in very good form.

"We liked what we saw of Ryan when he was here and we rate him as a good young player. Unfortunately, he has had a few injury problems but he seems to be over them now and he has been on the bench for Sunderland's first team most of the season.

"He is coming into a squad brimming with confidence, creating chances and scoring goals, so it `s as good a time as any to be joining us. We are delighted that (Sunderland manager) Martin O'Neill has let us have him for at least a month."

  1. Yes a good move, Tyson is always injured but the competition for the two strikers is still hot; Steve is back, Maguire is banging them in for the reserves, Ball is doing great for a young kid, now Noble...Clough has a headache!

  2. Getting 'in' players instead of getting 'rid' of players must be good for the squad and supporters and long may it continue.

  3. Keeping clean sheets is the key, something to build on. its a well known fact that Cloughie has not got the money he would like, but seems to be doing us OK. Noble is a good capture, no doubt, but my gut feeling is that we need a stable striking partnership, this will see us get the goal to win. remember if we can keep a clean sheet then one goal will be good enough! (Arsenal of old) Derby are a hard side to beat at the moment, we seem to perform best against teams that are above us..... is this physiological?

  5. Good move shows Derby not resting on current situation. Goals still difficult to come by so addition of Ryan Noble should soon put us back into a positve average - could be important come the end of the season.
