West Ham have signed former Manchester United trainee Joe Dixon on a short-term contract.
The 22-year-old striker has also had spells in Romania and Turkey and last played for non-league Grays Athletic in November.
Dixon has been handed a two-month deal in a bid to prove himself to Upton Park boss Sam Allardyce and land a longer contract.
"I'm very happy to have signed for West Ham," He told the Hammers' official website. "It's a big club with a lot of history, it's good to be here and I'm looking forward to starting."
"I've been to the training ground and met the manager and some of the players. The manager has got a lot of experience so I'm sure I can learn a lot from him.
"A lot of the players are experienced too. For me it's just about learning and improving as much as I can."

I am a West Ham fan at heart. But I do enjoy watching Non- League football. It just happens that I happened to watch Joe play for Grays and he was by far the best player on the pitch. What you dont know is Grays have a thing for not scoring and fluffing it up basically so he wasn't going to score there! I recon he is something worth watching! I am a Billericay Town and West Ham fan but I do go and watch grays from time to time! Julian Dicks was manager there last year and a couple before that and he was a shocking manager so lets hope we don't get him back as manager!
cant adam and eve it joe dixon a unknown player with little experience grays avin girraff.....young talent!!! montengro the paraguian pablo barrera, mathias fanimo.
elliot lee, cristian montano, jordan spence, just to name a few young players who i believe have a decent future in the game...coyi a win today and top of the league.
then leicester doing us a favour on monday against the saints...will b goodweek end
4 all westham fans........b putting my money on leicester at a generous 7/2.
i actually agree with papadragon on this which is a first (although i suspect he would moan if we got a mix of man citys & man utd first teams)
we should be using our homegrown talent rather than risking new nobody signings, i think our own youngsters would do the job for us if placed in team of great experience that we have at this time!
im just glad it wasnt lee dixon hah ahaha haa ahaa baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah coyi
Who the @#$% is Joe Dixon ?
I thought we had young strikers in the Academy - Nouble Hall Lee and Montano ?
Dagenham & Redbridge have extended the loan of West Ham forward Cristian Montano.
Montano has made a big impact since joining the npower League Two club in November, scoring three goals in seven games.
Why are we lending out talent and signing unknowns ?
Just checked Gray's Athletic website. Joe apparently has played three games, scored none and substitured twice. Really good stats ! Is this a joke ? Wait for Papadragon's comments if he sees who we've signed lol COYI
Did he go to Romania and Turkey for a holiday ? lol Non-league Grays Athletic is miles apart from Championship football, no disrespect, and West Ham do have many misfiring forwards. Sam said he wanted to get a striker in this transfer window and you can see he most probably will get slated if this is the best he can do. Fancy building up Hammers fans like this ! However, if the lad can prove himself, good luck to him. If he doesn't then ouch and the repercussions again will come heavily on West Ham's board and Big Sam who then won't be soooo big. COYI
is that Gay Rog comment 1
Weeellll Lets see, he cannot be worse than at least two we already have!. Lets see!!.
No, Rog... AFAIK he was a youth team trainee that the club didn't feel would make the top grade and released - that happens to a lot of lads at all the top clubs. He's got a chance now to establish himself with a club that looks very much like it will be back in the Premiership next season so good luck to the fella - I hope he makes it.
Of course, your unspoken question is... "Why is this news"? And of course there are two reasons: Firstly there are more Man Utd. fans in the UK than fans of any other team, even including Liverpool, so a lot of people who support Manchester United and West Ham United will find this interesting. The second reason is that Yahoo wants plenty of activity on the comments sections so throw in something like this to wind up all the ABU's like you out there and start off some controversy.
Don't fall for their game - forget United and concentrate on supporting your own team who, I suspect, you don't think of as 'twats'.
who ????? did he ever turn out for the red twats ??
