Our weekly look at the domestic fortunes of British clubs' upcoming adversaries in the Champions League, with stuttering Liverpool's next opponents in ominously good form.

FOOTBALL 2007-2008 Serie A Inter-Livorno Suazo Stankovic - 0

Internazionale (away to Liverpool on Tuesday)

Internazionale 2-0 Livorno

The Italian champions enjoyed a good weekend, extending their lead at the top of Serie A to 11 points with a comfortable 2-0 win over Livorno, thanks to a David Suazo brace and favourable results elsewhere in Italy. But perhaps more importantly, Inter boss Roberto Mancini was able to rest several key players ahead of the trip to Anfield, including star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and defender Marco Materazzi.

Olympiacos (home to Chelsea on Tuesday)

Olympiacos 1-0 Ergotelis

Heavy snow across Greece at the weekend prevented several games from being played - including Panathinaikos's clash with Atromitos - allowing Olympiacos to take full advantage and move top of the league with a narrow victory over bottom club Ergotelis. Skipper Predrag Djordjevic was on target in the 27th minute to hand all three points to the Piraeus-based club, who now top the Super League by a point.

Milan (away to Arsenal on Wednesday)

Parma 0-0 Milan

Milan continued their stop-start season with a disappointing goalless draw against struggling Parma. Brazilian strike duo Ronaldo and Pato both sat out the game with injuries and without them the Rossoneri struggled to break down a stubborn Parma defence, despite ending the game with Pippo Inzaghi, Alberto Gilardino and Kaka on the pitch. To make matters worse, goalkeeper Dida injured himself while sitting and the bench during the game and Zeljko Kalac sustained a dislocated finger in training on Sunday. The result left Milan in fifth place.

Barcelona (away to Celtic on Wednesday)

A contentious late penalty converted by Ronaldinho gave Barca a crucial 2-1 win at Zaragoza to close the gap on Liga leaders Real Madrid to five points. Thierry Henry opened the scoring for Los Cules but a Ricardo Oliveira equaliser pulled Zaragoza level only for Ronaldinho to convert an 82nd minute spot kick after Juanfran was harshly penalised for handball.

Lyon (home to Manchester United on Wednesday)

Le Mans 1-0 Lyon

It is no secret that Lyon are struggling ahead of their tie with Manchester United and the French champions' sluggish performance at the weekend proved just that. Les Gones slumped to defeat at Le Mans after Brazilian forward Tulio's 71st minute strike gave the hosts all three points, allowing Bordeaux to close to gap to just a solitary point on the Ligue 1 leaders.
