Spurs' long-serving former skipper has sat out the club's last five matches after suffering a hamstring strain against Portsmouth.

Redknapp is not looking to rush King back into action anytime soon in a bid to ensure he is fit for the cup final against United.

"I'm hopeful he'll be okay," he said. "It's sort of day-to-day. He's had a hamstring problem.

"He's got that knee problem, but he's a fantastic player when he's fit. We're just hoping that he continues his recovery.

"We'll monitor ahead of the weekend and we'll see how he looks next week."

Redknapp added Chelsea keeper Carlo Cudicini to his ranks during the transfer window and is pleased he now has two shot-stoppers at his fingertips.

The former Pompey boss has confirmed Heurelho Gomes will be in goal against Sir Alex Ferguson's troops at Wembley as Cudicini is cup-tied.

"They are both top class keepers. It's competition between the pair of them," he continued.

"Gomes will obviously play in the Carling Cup final. It's nice to have two top goalkeepers. They are both terrific.

"That's what it's about. It's about competition. No one should have a divine right to be a number one.

"It's about performing and keeping your place and having someone pushing you for your place at all times.

"That's why Manchester United are the top team. They have competition in every position."
