London 2012 - Montezemolo to lead Rome 2020 bid
Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has been asked to lead Rome's bid to host the 2020 Olympics.
Montezemolo, who organised Italy's 1990 football World Cup and has been chairman of Fiat, is due to give a response at the start of next week.
"Luca di Montezemolo is the right man, one of the most famous Italians in the world. With him our chances would increase," Italian Games Committee president Gianni Petrucci told ANSA news service.
"I'm in complete agreement with the government and the Rome council. I really hope the Ferrari president's reply is positive."
The 63-year-old has been mulling entering politics but said he was committed to Ferrari at the Formula One team's season launch last month.
Roma beat off competition from Venice to be Italy's candidate for the 2020 Summer Games.
The International Olympic Committee will decide on the hosts in 2013 with Dubai and Japanese cities among those to have shown interest.
