La Liga - Michel's Sevilla end barren run
Sevilla earned their first victory under Michel, a 2-0 result at home to Osasuna ending a run of eight Liga games without a win.
The Spain and Real Madrid legend took over from Marcelino recently and suffered a 2-0 defeat to Real Sociedad at the Anoeta in his first game in charge.
But in his first home match, he was afforded a rapturous reception and his team responded - Gary Medel scoring in the first half and substitute Piotr Trochowski in the second.
Sevilla may be struggling compared with Osasuna this season, but they dominated from kick-off.
Fredi Kanoute was at the heart of much of it, striking a first-time shot just wide of the near post and denied when free in the box by a last-ditch tackle back from Jukka Raitala.
The first goal arrived on 16 minutes, Alvaro Negredo laying off to Chilean midfielder Medel whose strike - his first for the club in 44 appearances - flew into the bottom corner from 25 yards out.
Just before the break Osasuna striker Nino went through on goal but took a heavy touch and went down under the challenge of home keeper Andres Palop - referee Velasco Carballo was correct to ignore the penalty claims as the keeper got a touch on the ball and the striker was already going to ground anyway.
Despite that Sevilla had nine efforts on goal to the one of Osasuna in the first period - but it would not continue in the second half.
Jose Luis Mendilibar, whose side have been poor away from home all season, brought on Roland Lamah and Ibrahima Balde at the break and they galvanised the visitors.
Skipper Francisco Punal sent a couple of efforts wide and Lamah in particular threatened in and around the box.
However Jesus Navas should have put the game to bed on 62 minutes, lifting the ball over the advancing keeper Andres Fernandez but well wide when a pass for Negredo in the middle would have guaranteed a goal.
Inside the final quarter of an hour Lamah forced a save out of Palop from the right then a hard strike for the bottom corner was palmed away brilliantly moments later.
There were few clear-cut opportunities for Gorritxoak, and they were made to pay in injury time.
After Baba inexplicably placed a finish wide of the post when played in by Ivan Rakitic, Sevilla attacked down the right through Navas again - and German Trochowski finished the low cross inside the near post.
