Scotland boss George Burley has handed CIS Cup heroes Kris Boyd and Allan McGregor hope of a quick return to Hampden action.A day after the Rangers pair played instrumental roles in the final victory over Dundee United, Burley hinted they could have a major part in next Wednesday's friendly against Croatia.
Goalkeeper McGregor has only played 45 minutes of international football - in a 1-0 friendly win in Austria last year - with £9million Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon making the number one jersey his own.
But after watching McGregor's performances this season, including his penalty saves in the shootout win over United, Burley believes he now has a selection dilemma.
"Allan has been in absolutely terrific form," the Scotland boss said.
"We'll look at the situation but Allan has been in superb form and he has shown in Europe and in league games that he has developed into a top-class keeper and he will be pushing Craig Gordon for the automatic number one spot.
"But you need that competition and I'm very pleased to have two world-class goalkeepers."
Despite his two spot-kick saves, McGregor was overshadowed by two-goal hero Boyd, who also struck the winning penalty following the 2-2 draw.
And Burley has offered encouragement to the forward, who has struggled to hold down a starting place at Ibrox despite his prolific record with club and country.
The former Ipswich boss said: "Kris' qualities are there to be seen - he scores goals.
"Whether he starts or comes on from the subs' bench, he is capable of turning games. He showed that on Sunday, he has got an eye for goal.
"If you want to start him on the bench or from the start, he is certainly liable to pinch a goal at some time.
"I think with any squad you need alternatives, you need people that give you something different. Kris is a capable goalscorer and you don't get many of them in your team."
While Burley brought in Hibernian striker Steven Fletcher and Hearts defender Christophe Berra, he stuck with the nucleus of the squad he inherited from Alex McLeish, resting only 37-year-old Davie Weir.
Burley confirmed Fletcher would make his debut after pulling him out of an Under-21 qualifier but he wants to maintain the momentum achieved under the now Birmingham boss.
"Croatia showed in the European Championship what a top European side they are," said Burley of a team that finished above England and Russia.
"They had a difficult group and qualified, and unfortunately we didn't.
"They have some world-class players playing all over the world.
"Their style of play is very attacking, they have some great individual players.
"I think it's one for the public to look forward to and it's my first game so we will be going out there to try to get the right result."
Despite few changes in the 26-man squad, Burley revealed Cardiff full-back Kevin McNaughton and injured West Brom midfielder James Morrison were uppermost in his thoughts.
And they could feature in a friendly game pencilled in for May, when the Old Firm are expected to be on tour.
"We are working hard on a game at the end of May," Burley said.
"We realise we might be missing a couple of players but May and August are the only possible dates before we play Macedonia in September.
"We are confident we can get a couple of games sorted. There are one or two options but nothing concrete."
