Guilfoyle slams new stadium plans

Tue 18 Mar, 12:00 PM

Luton Town administrator Brendan Guilfoyle has distanced the club from plans for a new stadium at Junction 12 of the M1.Guilfoyle is unhappy that an application by Goodman Group International has the name, logo, brand and crest of Luton Town Football Club on the plans without the club's permission.

"I have politely asked Goodmans to remove all references to Luton Town Football Club immediately," said Guilfoyle. "Throughout my time at the club, I have been clear that I am not in a position to back or oppose these plans nor comment on the contract the previous owner had with the landowner Mr Cliff Bassett.

"This has to be a decision for the new owners of the club, LTFC2020, as I hope to finish my responsibilities by the end of this season. I have already said that the current stadium is not fit for purpose, and that to get out of this cycle of administrations a new ground will be a necessity.

"My sole focus has been on saving the club and not on planning applications that could take years to come to fruition. My priority has been to stabilise the finances and complete the club sale."

In February mid-Bedfordshire MP Nadine Dorries presented a 3000-strong petition to parliament opposing developers' plans to build at Junction 12.
