Hamstring mystery for Nicholl

Tue 18 Mar, 10:30 AM

Aberdeen assistant boss Jimmy Nicholl has no idea why so many of the club's stars have been left hamstrung by one particular injury this term.Jamie Smith, Richie Byrne, Jackie McNamara, Stuart Duff, Darren Mackie and now Jeffrey de Visscher have all suffered from hamstring problems, with the Pittodrie treatment room packed throughout a testing term to date.

De Visscher is the latest to go down with that specific muscle strain, which he picked up on Sunday morning while running.

The Dutchman will now miss Tuesday night's CIS Insurance Cup quarter-final replay at Celtic.

Former Manchester United player Nicholl is at a loss to explain why the injury keeps occurring to members of his squad.

Nicholl said: "We had the players in on Sunday morning and they had a light jog around the pitch just to keep them ticking over.

"Then Jeffrey came in the next morning with a hamstring strain, so I don't know what happened there, but he is out.

"I don't know why it is happening and the players all warm up.

"They are all professional enough to get themselves ready for training.

"But there are also a lot of pelvic injuries now and we never had that in our day.

"I have absolutely no idea what causes it and I don't like those bladed boots so whether that has anything to do with it, I don't know."
