Terriers thankful for Beckett goal

Tue 18 Mar, 11:00 PM

Luke Beckett's penalty 12 minutes from time gave Huddersfield only their second win in seven league games as they won 2-1 at home to Brighton.Beckett stroked home his 12th goal of the season on Tuesday after Chris Brandon had been fouled by Andy Whing.

Huddersfield broke the deadlock with just four minutes gone when full-back Andy Holdsworth exchanged passes with Beckett near the penalty box before slotting past Michel Kuipers.

Although Brighton were under the cosh for long periods of the first half, Dean Wilkins' side should have equalised 10 minutes later, but top scorer Nicky Forster drove wide after being sent clear by Glenn Murray.

Huddersfield had chances to go further ahead, but Michael Collins' strike was palmed away by Kuipers, while Andy Booth's header was cleared off the line by Kerry Mayo.

The hosts were made to pay for their poor finishing a minute after the break, as Holdsworth was judged to have brought down Forster in the penalty area and the veteran frontman picked himself up to convert the spot-kick - and Brighton almost snatched a point in stoppage time, but Murray's header hit the post.
