Toshack calling for Euro reward

Tue 18 Mar, 03:15 PM

Wales Manager John Toshack thrown his support behind calls for Cardiff to play in next season's UEFA Cup should they win the FA Cup.Toshack, who scored 74 goals in 162 appearances for Cardiff between 1966 and 1970, believes the Bluebirds have a great chance of beating Championship rivals Barnsley in their semi-final and claims they would deserve their European reward.

"It's unfair if the ruling remains where City couldn't play in the UEFA Cup," he told the South Wales Echo.

"It would mean a great deal to all three of our league clubs to be able to play in Europe, especially when it comes to attracting new players.

"They're 90 minutes from the final and the way the tournament is going, you never know. You wouldn't rule out a Welsh team winning the FA Cup.

"They've as good a chance as any of the teams left in and it's so exciting for them, a fantastic situation to be in."
