Werder Bremen midfielder Diego is keen to play for Real Madrid, according to his father and agent.
The Brazilian is one of European football's brightest talents and was most recently tipped to replace Frank Lampard at Chelsea should the England international leave in the summer.
But Djair da Cunha has revealed that the former Porto schemer would prefer to join Spanish champions Real.
"Diego would definitely like to play for Real Madrid," Djair da Cunha told Marca. "Real Madrid are a great club, a very important club.
"But I am his only legal representative and I can assure you that, for the moment, there is nothing."
Da Cunha is waiting for Real to declare an interest in setting up a deal, but feels any talks should wait until the summer.
"If Real Madrid are interested, they must say so," he added.
"But I think that would be better at the end of the season. Now is not the time.
"It does not depend on us."
Brazil international Diego has a fearsome record of almost a goal every other game for the Bundesliga side, who he joined from Porto in 2006 after starting his career at Santos.
