Kennedy testimonial in pipeline

Thu, 18 Mar 11:42:33 2010

Scotland could be set to play Celtic in a testimonial to raise money for the stricken John Kennedy, Press Association Sport understands.

The possibility of arranging a benefit game for the 26-year-old, who was forced to retire following a serious knee injury while on international duty, is being discussed by the Scottish Football Association and the Parkhead club.

May 16 - the day after the Active Nation Scottish Cup final - is reportedly the date under consideration for the fixture at Celtic Park.

Kennedy retired last year after losing his long battle against cruciate ligament damage suffered during his Scotland debut against Romania in March 2004.

The defender was the victim of a horror tackle by Ionel Ganea less than 15 minutes into the game, leaving his knee shattered.

He went under the knife three times but, despite returning briefly under Gordon Strachan, he was eventually forced to concede his professional career was over.

  1. promising young player. How different would our fortunes have been if he had recovered and was in the heart of our defence the last two years? We will never know.

I agree with paul g, footballers have it too easy in life. Big deal if he got injured, move on.

  4. PT 5 Paul. I was not meaning we had no chance to be in it, I just put the disclaimer there as I knew all the huns would pick up on it and post useless comments. I do think we will be in the Cup Final and I also think we will win it. Dundee Utd are not too hot right now and should not give us too many issues in the final.

Paul G, you are a disgrace to yourself and other decent Rangers fans. The truth is, these days if you get hurt at work, the company is legally bound to take care of you and you probably would get a pay out. You need a job first, to get one of those, you need to have a little bit of an education. Sorry mate, maybe you can fake an injury walking up the stairs to sign on.

  5. @6, In my eyes he was a good defender for years back, but tbh if he didnt get the injury, I think someone else would have been injured pretty serious as his tackles were a bit over the top.

Some of them were eye watering, and he was quite lucky a few opponents didnt have their studs in the ground ;)

  10. Paul g; They'd probably have a 'whip around' to pay somebody to make sure you'd never come back in any capacity.

If i get injured at work then come back not the same but still young and perfectly able to do other jobs do you think they would have a whip around to make sure i was fine for the rest of my life before i went? F.u.k no. Get real. Its the risk you take in football.

  12. Great way to make sure the bhoy gets no money from it. Have it the day after the Cup final(Not that we will be in it) and pick Scotland as the opponents. How many Rangers, Hearts, Hibs fans etc will attend?
This is doomed to failure for the bhoy
