Fri 18 Apr, 06:15 PM

Rotherham have confirmed that a number of formal offers for a takeover of the Yorkshire club have been received from prospective purchasers. It had been suggested the troubled League Two outfit would be forced to close if no deal was reached before a 5pm deadline on Friday.

But administrator Jeremy Bleazard, of XL Business Solutions, said "I am very encouraged that a number of bids have come in and I will spend the next couple of days considering each one on its merits.

"I hope to begin formal discussions with a 'preferred' bidder early next week."

Bleazard went on to confirm that the bids do not at this stage commit any of the prospective buyers to begin funding the club.

He stated: "Though this is good news, our cash flow still does not allow me to pay the full amount of the players' or staff wages.

"I cannot stress enough how important our need for funds still is and hope that everyone does not simply assume that everything will now be all right."
