Wigan have made two seperate bids - one of which could be worth £6million - to sign Amr Zaki, according to the Egypt striker's club Zamalek.Steve Bruce has made no secret of his desire to sign a striker this summer and reportedly lodged a £4.2million bid for Zaki last week after travelling to Africa to see the 25-year-old in action at the start of the month.
Zamalek have been holding out for £6million, though, and according to a spokesman for the Egyptian club, Latics have now offered to match that amount providing they can take Zaki on a season-long loan first.
"Wigan offered to sign Zaki on a season-long loan for £1.8 million; with a view to a permanent switch should they pay six million at the season's end," Khaled Gabr told FilGoal.
"They tabled another £4.2 million bid to sign him on a permanent basis. Zamalek are yet to decide whether to accept either option."
Some reports have suggested a deal has already been completed to take Zaki to the JJB Stadium but it is likely to be at least the end of the month before he officially becomes a Latics player.
Agent Nader Shawky said: "Wigan deem Zamalek's £6 million asking price too high, but direct talks between the two parties are being held to reach a suitable agreement."
