Notts County boss Ian McParland wants to create a tight-knit squad for his side's campaign next season and says he needs only 20 players. The League Two outfit, who currently are without a reserve side, finished this season just six points clear of relegation and with 25 members in their first team.
McParland has insisted that the amount of players in the squad had an adverse effect on morale and is determined to enter the new season with a trimmed down side that contains a renewed team spirit and energy.
"I have got a lot of ideas in my head. I would like a smaller squad next season," he told thisisnottscounty.co.uk
"I would like to have 18 outfield players and a couple of experienced goalkeepers. I just want to have a tight-knit dressing room.
"If we get a few injuries, then we will have to go into the loan market. I would rather it be nice and tight because we haven't got a reserve team, so we can't have two squads."
