No Lonergan offers - Irvine

Mon 18 May, 02:25 PM

Preston manager Alan Irvine has dismissed reports linking highly-rated goalkeeper Andy Lonergan with a move to the Barclays Premier League.

Homegrown stopper Lonergan, 25, has proved a key figure for the Lilywhites this season as they reached the Coca-Cola Championship play-off semi-finals.

A number of top-flight clubs are said to be weighing up a bid for Lonergan but Irvine told the Evening Post: "That's news to me.

"I haven't had a phone call from anyone and I think I would have known if there was anything like that going on.

"There are always going to be newspaper stories like this and there is nothing we can do about it.

"But I can assure you we haven't heard a word from any club. And I'll be happy if it stays that way."
