Rafael Benitez declined to congratulate Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson for his side's title triumph as the pair's simmering feud continued.
Benitez had seen his side beat West Brom 2-0, and send them back to the Coca-Cola Championship, but was twice given the opportunity at the post-match press conference to congratulate Ferguson on winning the title - but each time he made it clear that he was only prepared to congratulate the Old Trafford club as a whole.
During the season Benitez and Ferguson have traded barbed comments at regular intervals.
And the Spaniard said: "I will say congratulations to Manchester United. They have done well, but I do not want to say too much. I prefer just to say well done to the club, a big club, a good club.
"Normally you have to be polite and respect the other manager. During the season we have seen a lot of things that I didn't like, so that's it.
"I say congratulations to United because they have won. And that's it."

Get your facts right, Parker; taking advantage of a media-fuelled uproar to earn your keep is ungentlemanly. Benitez DID congratulate Man Utd. His statements were thus: "I will say congratulations to Manchester United. They have done well, but I do not want to say too much. I prefer just to say well done to the club, a big club, a good club. Normally you have to be polite and respect the other manager. During the season we have seen a lot of things that I didn't like, so that's it. I say congratulations to United because they have won. And that's it." The fact that Benitez did not single out Sir Alex Ferguson for a pat on the back does not mean that Benitez has no respect for what Man Utd has achieved as a club. What more do you people want..?
fergie says halfway though the season, liverpool would not be title contenders?. way off the mark whiskey face.
benitez replyed utd are running scared of liverpool.
ever since fergie took over utd he`s been obbsessed with liverpool, which proves benitez point.
fergie wants to get another title to overtake liverpool and another 2 champions league, and then he think about retiring.
fergie says on saturday man utd where the best team in the 4-1 defeat by liverpool (which proves yet again he talks utter bollock).
speaking of talking utter @#$%. utd fans writing in saying giggs deserved players player of the year, and writers player of the year and gerrard should not have won it. then last night utd fans and players voted vidic player of the year.
it seems the whole club speak @#$%.
IF HE DOESN'T WANT TO CONGRATULATE SIR ALEX FERGUSON, IT WON'T HURT ANYBODY CONNECTED WITH MAN UTD. AFTER ALL, THE BPL TROPHY IS SAFELY KEPT AT OLD TRAFFORD FOR ANOTHER SEASON. THAT IS A FACT. HA HA HA GLORY GLORY MAN UTD
