Birmingham manager Alex McLeish has already turned his attention to replacing Fabrice Muamba after the midfielder joined Bolton. The England Under-21 ace, who was a fans' favourite at St Andrew's, joined Gary Megson's Trotters on Monday after two successful seasons with the midlands club.
However, McLeish is now looking to find another midfielder to fill the void having already brought in Lee Carsley earlier in the summer.
"It's important to replace Fabrice with someone I think can enhance the team," McLeish told the club's official website. "In losing Fab I now have to make sure I can get the midfield as strong as I can.
"We're very lean, as a squad, in terms of numbers and I would hope by the start of the season we'll be a little bit stronger on that front."
McLeish added: "It was very good to work with Fab because he's very committed. But in the end it was an offer we couldn't refuse and we wish him well in the next chapter of his career."
