It seems the 2008 edition of Belgium's Ypres Westhoek Rally will be one of the best ever experienced. Normally there should be a good hundred cars at the start with some entries coming in at the last moment, but last Friday morning, within 24 hours of closing the registrations, the organisers finally received the paperwork of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge's current leader, Luca Rossetti.
There were some concerns regarding his attendance, as his website had announced that the Italian's next rally would be on on 20 July -- further away than the Ypres Rally's dates of 26-28 June!
With the entry of Rossetti, the A.C. Targa Florio has established a new record for the number of Super 2000 cars at the start on a single race. At the moment, there are already 18 cars on the list, one more than in Portugal earlier this year. And things are not over yet as it is expected that Brit White will enroll a second MG.
The next surprise came from Luca Betti, also of Italy, who was seen last year with the Honda Civic of JAS and drove a Mitsubishi earlier this season. In Ypres he will drive a Super 2000 Peugeot for the first time.
At the moment, it is clear the French cars will make up the majority of the Super 2000 field on June 27th. The following cars are currently on the entry list:
There are also hopes that the 'regular' Group N cars will be able to give these top contenders a run for their money.
