Rangers And Burnley Wait On Gow

Wed 18 Jun, 12:09 PM

Rangers will look to seal the signing of Burnley striker Kyle Lafferty today - and Alan Gow holds the key to the deal being completed.

A fee of £3.25million has been agreed, which includes £250,000 to be paid once Lafferty has established himself at Ibrox.

Burnley will also collect 10% of any future profit if Rangers sell Lafferty.

Scotland B forward Gow is expected to continue talks with Burnley over a move to Turf Moor, having been offered to the Clarets as an additional part of the deal.

The former Falkirk player made just two appearances for Rangers last season, in cup games against East Fife and East Stirling.

Gow and Burnley have not been able to reach agreement so far, and the Coca-Cola Championship club are known to be eager to cut their wage bill, which exceeds turnover.

Gow, 25, said: "I'm still thinking about things."

Lafferty is hoping the move can be pushed through, and told the Daily Record: "The deal is not completely concluded but I'm hoping it's only a matter of time before Alan's situation is sorted."

The 20-year-old Northern Ireland international has already passed a medical and agreed a contract with Rangers.

Lafferty will become Rangers' third striker signing of the summer, after Kenny Miller joined from Derby and Andrius Velicka agreed a move from Norwegian club Viking.

Former Northern Ireland manager Lawrie Sanchez is tipping Lafferty to be a hit in Scotland.

"He will be a good signing for Rangers," Sanchez told The Sun.

"Gers are not getting the finished product yet but he is one for the future and it's good he'll be coached by Ally McCoist."

Meanwhile, Ipswich failed in a late bid to land Lafferty, according to Burnley chairman Barry Kilby.

"We had cash-plus-player offers from three other clubs - Ipswich came in quite late - but they were all considerably below this one.

"This is a good price when you are buying potential rather than the finished article."

(reopens) Burnley chairman Barry Kilby stressed the club were left with no alternative but to let Lafferty move on after the striker claimed he was unhappy at Turf Moor.

Kilby told BBC Radio Lancashire: "The remarks Kyle made about wanting to leave had a bearing.

"We felt if we could get a good deal for Kyle we would let him go.

"You would obviously prefer (to have) players that are dedicated to the club and really want to play for you."

(reopens) While Rangers wait to wrap up the signing of Lafferty, last season's top scorer Kris Boyd has reiterated his desire to stay at the club.

Boyd, 24, hit 25 goals for Rangers last season despite making just 23 starts and netted in both domestic cup final victories for Walter Smith's side.

Boyd has stressed he has been given no indication that Rangers will look to sell him, however the club now have eight strikers at the club, including the injured Steven Naismith who will not play again until the second half of next season.

Boyd could move on if Rangers decide their squad is overloaded with forwards, and after a campaign in which he was often forced to watch from the bench, his first-team opportunities could be further reduced with the deals for Miller, Velicka and Lafferty.

Rangers are expected to try to sell Daniel Cousin, whose £3million move to Fulham fell through earlier this year due to FIFA regulations barring him playing for three clubs in the same season. Cousin had featured for Lens before joining Rangers in August.
