AFP/Paul Ellisview photoBARCELONA, Spain (AFP) - European champions Barcelona are hot on the trail of Liverpool's Argentine international midfielder Javier Mascherano, Catalan sports daily Sport reported Thursday.
Thew club's head of technical affairs Txiki Begiristain and director of football Raul Sanllehy met with the player's two agents for two hours at a Barcelona hotel, according to Sport, to thrash out a potential deal and "establish the interest of the two parties."
Mascherano has been dubbed unsellable by the Reds' Spanish coach Rafael Benitez, who says he would not even sell the player for 60 million euros.

i have nothing against him but here at Barca we already have Yaya Toure which his size is a bonus for any defensive midfielder. plus he scored some amazing & important goals in the quest of treble this season. he's also a humble guy with no complains coming out from him even when he'd play at odd position in 2 finals..
Mr Laporta should open his eyes big n keep his mouth close n improve his contract.. n if Barca really wanna splash some euros to Liverpool, then that must be for Pepe Reina..

At the end of the day, he's a defensive midfielder. They are 2 a penny. take the money if its a good offer. Give Lucas a chance to shine. He developed over the 2nd part of the season.

i'm Barca n hope this one brokedown.. improve Yaya contract instead n get someone for backup during African cup in january.. there many young spanish as candidate for much cheaper trade.. if we are really to splash some cash then why holding back for Reina..
He's a class player in his position probably the best in the world but admittedly gives very little else so If he wants to go then let him, very few players improve once they've left Liverpool, and if Barca want him then it's either £35mill or yaya toure and Bojan in return.

Masch owes it to Liverpool to stay-Liverpool were the ones that got him and his career going again when West Ham didn't want him - his agent should just stay out of things until Masch's contract is up with Liverpool

I tought Masch is Liverpool player, he`s under contract, right? shouldn`t Barca first talk to Liverpool about buying the player? i remember Alex`s complaints to UEFA about Ronaldo`s approaching by Real last summer!
