Bolt runs 9.77 seconds in Ostrava

Olympic champion Usain Bolt clocked a wind-assisted 9.77 seconds over 100 metres at the Ostrava grand prix.

Jamaican Bolt, who set a world record of 9.69 seconds in the Beijing final last year, was assisted by a following wind of 2.1 metres a second.

Cuban world record holder Dayron Robles won the 110 metres hurdles in a season's best of 13.04 seconds.

"I am very tired today, maybe (I had) fever at night, I did not sleep well. I feel very bad," he said.

Bershawn Jackson of the United States, the bronze medallist in Beijing, clocked a season's best time of 48.32 seconds in 400 metres hurdles.

Meselech Melkamu of Ethiopia won the women's 5,000 metres in a year's best of 14 minutes 34.17 seconds.

Ethiopia's Dire Tune failed in her attack on Kenyan Tegla Loroupe's world 20 kms best, running alone in the second half to clock 1:05:35.3, 8.7 seconds off the record

"From the beginning I did not run as I wanted, I ran a long time alone, I felt very tired in the middle of the race," Tune said.

  1. 9,65? i think Bolt can run 9,49 but he will do like­ Isimbayeva break a litle bit each time and earning­ millions each time he breaks the record until he make­ 9,49 or lower. In the next 3 years he may be the first­ man to break 9s barrier

  2. 9.77, at this phase of the season, is terrific. i am­ now 100% sure he will break onother record for 100m (i­ guess 9.65). for 200m, however, it will not be so easy.

My money is on him to beat the world record this­ year.Also i would fancy more of a recognition for the­ Mauritian athlete, Stephane Buckland on 200­ mts.He's been performing amazingly well on these­ circuits since 1996 and yesterday he did finish 6th on­ 200 mts. He's been in several world championships­ and olympics finals. In 2005 Usain bolt pipped him on­ the finishing line at the commonwealth games 200 mts­ final.
