Blackburn have agreed a fee with Olympiacos for the permanent transfer of Matt Derbyshire and the striker has now been given permission to discuss personal terms.

The 23-year-old spent last season out on loan at the Greek club and had already been the subject of a reported £3 million bid.

With manager Sam Allardyce keen to generate funds for squad strengthening, having successfully fought off relegation having taken over from the sacked Paul Ince midway through the campaign, he is willing to allow the former England Under-21 international to leave Ewood Park.

Derbyshire, who scored 11 goals after moving to Olympiacos in January, is believed to be keen on a permanent move to the Greek league and cup winners.

If he signs it will give him the chance to play Champions League football for the first time.

  1. The picture was taken after he scored a last minute equaliser in the Greek Cup game final. He scored seconds after re-entering the pitch, after getting tratement for an elbow to his nose.

And you wonder why Olympiacos wanted him....

The final ended 18-19 in penalties.

  4. Nice to see some English players playing abroad.
He's not the most talented player, but perhaps such an experience will help make him a better player.

  5. Look at his nose! Looks like he's got bad flu!!! Weather can't be that good! Haha. 3m for someone who can't get a game at a club like Blackburn is pretty good business. Shame as I had high hopes for him but he always seemed a bit lightweight for his size? Wish him well and hope there's a clause to get him back if he turns out to be mega!
