La Liga - Barca, Real announce friendlies

European champions Barcelona will play a friendly against Mexican club Chivas Guadalajara in San Francisco on August 8 as part of their pre-season programme.

The match at Candlestick Park stadium will be the third in Barca's tour of the United States following games against LA Galaxy in Pasadena on Aug. 1 and Seattle Sounders in Seattle on August 5.

Barca are also due to play English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur and African champions Al Ahly of Egypt in the Wembley Cup in London at the end of July.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have announced they will play a friendly against Borussia Dortmund at the Bundesliga side's stadium on August 19 as part of their centenary celebrations.

Real said on their website it would be a special match for their German central defender Christoph Metzelder, who played for Dortmund from 2000-2007 before moving to the Spanish capital.

  1. shawmail27, the USA may not have good teams, but it has­ one of the biggest economy in the world. If Barca play­ well here, they may get new fans. Which could increase­ merchandise sales and possible more money from tv­ networks.
