Premier League - Roque resigned to Rovers stay

Eurosport - Thu, 18 Jun 12:01:00 2009

Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz has intimated he would see out his contract at Ewood Park if no club matches the multi-million pound buy-out clause attached to him.

FOOTBALL Blackburn Roque Santa Cruz - 0

The Paraguay international was the subject of a number of bids from Manchester City in January but Rovers, at the time involved in a relegation battle, stood firm.

Manager Sam Allardyce could definitely use the money from any transfer of the 27-year-old to strengthen his squad this summer, but unless the buy-out clause - believed to be around £20million - is met he is likely to hold on to his most saleable asset.

Santa Cruz, who missed the end of the season with a knee injury and has made no secret of his desire to leave, reluctantly accepts the opportunity to move on may not arise.

"A signed document stipulates that there is a lot of money to pay to take me away from Blackburn," Santa Cruz told Radio 970 AM in Paraguay.

"If they don't want to sell me, then I must complete my contract and continue with them. I am under contract until 2012."

  2. stop hating on santa cruz
he is a great player in my opinion
city shuld lose some of its useless strikers such as benjani ( he rarely plays) am not saying hi sgud but his wasting their money

  3. That's pretty cruel of Rovers, if he wants to go, let him go for a price that a club would accept! He's just going to sit on the bench, Rovers dont want him, and there goes his career.

  4. NOT MUCH OF A HIGH PROFILE STRIKER.SO I BET HE IS BETTER OFF WHERE HE IS

  5. i think for a city fan,we need a tall striker who can hold the ball up for our shorter stikers, looking at last season, the times the ball was crossed high into the oponents box there was no one tall enough to head the ball.Santa Cruz,Peter Crouch,Henry & Carew, ideal but have we seen the best of them, more and more injuries being picked up..... I would love to see our defence strenghened, ideally Lescott, but dont see the Toffees letting him go.Henzie would be up for a rematch against man utd. What about the Toure brothers, need more purchasings sooner rather then later,so the team can bond before the new season

  6. good man! thats what we want to see in football, a player who if he cant get sold will just get on with things...

  7. I think he starts to worry about his future...
Big Sam doesn't wanna use player who thinks about moving to another club, but there's no club that wanna buy him for that price ^^

  8. Not particularly a fan of Roque but i think these buy out clauses should be looked into by powers that be in football. This is what Mr. Blatter should call slavery and not CR7 on a weekly salary of 130,000 pounds in United.

  9. The last thing City need is another striker who is going to spend half the season warming the treatment table. Fat Sam shouldn't be so greedy though. Nobody is going to pay £20 million for a striker they won't be able to sell on for anything.

  10. I would prefer he didn't come to City....and that MH invests the saved monies buying every Football Tactics book he can find.

  11. How many strikers do City want? With the likes of Robinho, Bellamy, Vassell, Benjani, Caicedo, Bojinov, Sturridge and Evans already at the club, do they need to go shelling out big money for another striker? They should sign some quality defenders. Dunne and Richards are OK, but if City want to break into the top 4 they will have to get better.

  12. He is not a city type player we need someone with pace and power and he has not got that.

From davidhammerton, on Thu 18 Jun 11:35AM
  13. He wants to go to City, we should pay no more than 15million, sorry but he's not worth more than that.
