Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa has admitted he would consider a return to Spain as speculation mounts that Glen Johnson is on is way to Anfield.
The 26-year-old Spain international has been linked with a return to former club Real Madrid, with Portsmouth right-back Johnson tipped for a £17million switch to Merseyside.
Arbeloa, currently on international duty at the Confederations Cup, told El Mundo: "I am happy at Liverpool, but I have something to prove in Spain as I did not show my best form in La Liga. One day, I'm sure I will return."
He added: "It is always nice to be linked to big teams - even to this Madrid side in a time of transition. They are working hard to build a great team.
"I have one more year remaining on my Liverpool deal, but anything can happen.
"A contract renewal is in the air. I am contracted for one more year, but if Liverpool get an offer, they will consider it. It is all in the hands of my agent."

I am the last to object Arbeloa's exit. A few times only has he impressed me, otherwise not good enough for the Liverpool team. Glen Johnson may be the most important transfer for the Reds this summer.
Good ,buy Glenn and sell Arbeloa ...with money what Portsmouth owe to lfc and money from Arbeloa , good deal Funds from the potential sales of Pennant 6 mil, Dossena 6 mil,Lucas 6mil (check the last 5 games of brasilians , no Lucas 22 old ,but you can find Pato 20 ,Ramirez 21 ), Itanje 2 mil , give one more chance to Babel..........20 mil :) plus lfc transfer money , it was 30 or 32 mil........give 30-35 mil for D. Villa...and the rest buy a good midfielder ( ireland ) for rotation and ...that's the team : reina............johnson...carra...agger/skrtel...aurel io/insua...........kuyt...alonso...mascherano...gerrard ........torres...villa , and for rotation , subs : cavalieri....skrtel/agger...insua/aurelio...benayoun... riera...ireland...babel/nngog/spearing/kelly/darby/neme th..etc reserve ......and bring the no 19 to us

and you guest it, arbelo got a lot of running time unless he was injured and there jamie had to slot in at right back

If Liverpool do buy Glen Johnson then he is sure to be sold to Madrid!!!
That should be music to Liverpool fans ears. He is a donkey but because benitez persists with playing these donkeys (arbeloa, lucas, dossena) in europe, and liverpool always do well in europe, he always manages to sell them to big clubs who it seems to me get their strongest impressions from the champions league games.
Thank god they didnt watch all the 0-0 draws liverpool had when all the above mentioned couldnt get a kick.
