Villa snap up young Cobbler

Thu, 18 Jun 15:31:59 2009

Northampton youth-team player Courtney Cameron has signed for Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee.

The 16-year-old is the latest youngster from the Cobblers youth-team set-up to make the jump to the Premier League, following Mark Randall and Anton Blackwood.

"Courtney has been at the club for a number of years and has improved immeasurably in that time," said Town's head of youth Geoff Harrop.

"He's an attacking player, very athletic and has an excellent attitude. He has worked hard, listened well and he, just like Mark and Anton before him, is proof that local players are in good hands here at Northampton Town."

The Cobblers have secured the services of Yas Hussain, another player who was attracting Premier League interest, on a long-term contract.

  1. tr3v15 and obz007(or James Bond?) you have both hit the nail on the head and talk a lot of sense. What people are forgetting is that we had a really good season, but unfortunately the wheels came off towards the end. This is a very young squad of players who have surly learnt from that experience and we have some very good players coming through the ranks. Don’t be surprised if he doesn’t play our England under 19 Clark at centre half for a few games next season. Yes, we need one or two experienced players to bring the kids through but remember that for every player he buys that knocks back the kids coming through and they will end up going to other clubs. Also, he now has a few young players coming back from loans last season who have now gain valuable first team experience for them to challenge for the first team. The future is so exciting at Aston Villa where other clubs have to rely on buying players to buy success. How boring, yawn, yawn, yawn, yawn, yawn, yawn, yawn,

  2. jamesconnolly23, you really haven't got a clue!!!! Since MON took over at the Villa, we've moved from just above the relegation zone (think back to 4 years ago), to making Chelsea, Arsenal, Man U and Liverpool think twice about us and The Champions League!
The last time we played in Europe was about 10 years ago, and yes he did hit a clanger with the squad he put out (pretty much our reserve and youth team) but I could see what he was trying and its unfortunate it didn't work out.
As for signings, I'd rather he took his time and bought players who will benefit from our aims, both long and short term. He's always held his cards to his chest when it comes to transfers anyway, but has never really let us down there.

I think MON is a legend and have TOTAL faith in his ability.

    HOLTENDERS IN THE SKY!!!!!!!

  3. For all doubting MON, as a Villa fan, I share you frustration, but one thing he has always maintained is that he always works quietly on his tranfer goals. Not for him huge tabloid speculation on the latest ins and outs.

Villa need to build the squad to offset the losses we have incurred (Barry, Laursen) and will incur (Young), and I have faith that MON has this firmly in hand. We can build on last season, and if we can get the personnel on board to help us through the latter stages of the season, there is no reason to think we cannot be right amongst it in the battle for 3rd and 4th.

    Come on the Villa

  5. I sometimes wonder what planet some people live on. O'Neil is one of the best mangers in the country. If you disagree, then who are you going to replace him with? Can you get it into your thick heads all you O'Neil critics that football is going out of control? Clubs are playing 20 million for a right back, so how much will they have to pay for a striker? Yes, Man City is buying players but they are going for the money and not to play for the club. What happens when the money runs out in the future? That will not be a problem for Aston Villa. What’s the hurry to break into the big four? We have one of the most progressive teams in the premier league. O'Neil will build a team to complete with the top four within the next five years. We won’t have to worry about signing player because they will be coming from the youth system. As for signing world class players, Barry isn’t and will never be. As for saying he was a real servant for the club, that’s bull too. Yes, he has spent many years at the club, but I’m sure he has been paid more money over the years than many people who have put in the same number of years for their company. Do I resent him for his move to M City? No! Of course not, if he thinks it’s the best move for his career then good luck to him. If Villa can sell Ashley Young for 30 million, then I would if he doesn’t want to play for the club as he is not world class either. In fact, I would sell any player if they didn’t want to put their heart into the club. Finally, the transfer window has only been opened two weeks and people expect O'Neil to sign ten players. Well folks most players are on holiday, especially the ones O'Neil wants to sign.

I would like to thank o'neil for the job he's done but its about time he got fired im a villa fan and i think he's not up to the task of getting the club into the top 4

  7. Some silly comments on here. How do some of these folk know O'Neil is not after some good players? He is not going to say who, really is he? He has to keep his cards to his chest. This is football, not a gimmick sport where publicity is more important.
Most clubs would give an arm and a leg to have O'Neil as their manager.

where are the signings of the world class players??? sorry to say MON aint got a clue abt signing proven big names, signing some 17yr old kid aint gonna make us compete with the big 4, we need people at their peak now not in 5yrs time, with ashley young off to chelsea or real marid for 25million
