Curbs: No bids for Hammers duo

Fri 18 Jul, 10:00 AM

West Ham boss Alan Curbishley has left little room for debate when asked about the future of Hammers defenders Anton Ferdinand and Lucas Neill.Curbishley was speaking in the wake of the club's 4-2 pre-season friendly victory over Hampton and Richmond Borough.

Aston Villa and Newcastle are believed to be considering summer moves for Ferdinand, while Neill has been linked with Turkish giants Galatasaray and Manchester City.

But Curbishley, when asked if he had received bids for either player or if he wanted them to leave the club, simply replied "no" four times.

The Upton Park boss was a little more forthcoming when setting out his plans to bring more players to the club.

West Ham were crippled by injuries for large parts of last season, with a number of key players missing chunks of the campaign.

Curbishley, who believes he has a good squad at his disposal, will be making moves in the transfer market, but will not be rushing into deals.

He told Sky Sports News: "I think everybody is jumping up and down and coming to their own conclusions. Let's just wait and see what happens to us.

"I did say at the end of the season that it was the size of the squad which held us together, because we had tremendous (injury) problems.

"There's a long way to go before that window closes and we want to improve the squad.

"I feel that if I get my best XI out there we've got a decent side. I want to add a little bit more to that to get a bit more competition and we're working very hard to do that."
