West Brom have won the race to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson.

2008 Aston Villa Scott Carson - 0

The Baggies have beaten off interest from a host of clubs to sign the England international.

Liverpool decided to let Carson leave after bringing in Brazilian Diego Cavalieri as cover for Jose Reina.

Stoke agreed a £3.5million fee with the Reds earlier this week and held talks with Carson only to pull out of the move on Thursday.

West Brom also negotiated a deal with the Merseyside club and the former Leeds player has agreed a four-year deal at The Hawthorns.

His agent Colin Gordon has confirmed the deal has been done to bring Carson to West Brom.

"The deal has been done," Gordon told skysports.com.

"Scott has signed a four-year deal with West Brom.

"They will pay £3.25m which will rise to £4m for Scott."

Carson spent last season with the Baggies' West Midlands rivals Aston Villa, where he impressed.

Villa had wanted to complete a permanent deal for the England man but baulked at Liverpool's original asking price of close to £10m.

  6. Hilarious, the irony of being called insane by someone calling themselves Godmachine. Now this is the way it actually is. Carson is a young wipper snapper, afforded an opportunity to forward his career at the most decorated team in the land. Not content with his sabatical that gave him some experience to enable him to become a top 'experienced' keeper, and that afforded 'broke' Villa a top goalie. He sought to engineer a move to Villa because he realised Liverpool need talent and experience. He @#$% on Liverpool, no doubt coersed from Villa's pimp O'Neale to save Villa a few bob, and decrease his value. Grubby and unproffesional from Carson and Villa. In case GM missed it, he has been playing football during the past year, at Villa. Villan playing victim again...no change there then.

  8. I think that Carson has made a good move for himself because it would appear that Rafa does not like English born players, if he does then why have we got so many forgeiners in the Liverpool team. To me, there are too many players doing so for the money and not for the pride of being part of the Anfield set-up. Carson is an England international and that fact alone makes him one of the best six in the country. Good on ya Scotty just keep clean sheets against Liverpool. By the way I am a Liverpool fan resident in southern Spain.

  9. Far too cheap. Bargain of the decade. Now he has his own club, he'll shine and by next year his value will quadruple.

  10. No he wasn't @#$%, he is a great tallent. We were robbed and undermined by Carson and Villa. Loaning players out is not a good policy.

  11. darin you are insane - he was never given a chance at liverpool, who asked for a british transfer record for a keeper for him, never played him and - after benitez promised him he'd be back-up to reina last year - signed itandje and loaned him out again. utterly pointless keeping him, and in pricing him out of the market ended his chances of a villa deal. he owes liverpool nothing - they never let him play. now stop it.

  12. Carson was @#$%. Remember that time when the under-21 England team went to play against Holland and the penalties went on for hours?

  13. Carson undermined Liverpools position, by declaring his view that his transfer fee was over inflated. He should have showed some loyalty, kept his trap firmly shut, and allowed the manager to manage. I'm glad the Villans didn't get him on the cheap, a move both he and Villa were trying to force. Glad to see the back of this ungrateful sod, and relieved we got a few bob for him. West Brom have got a good bargain. However while I welcome there return to the premiership, I have lost all respect for Carson. His gob probably cost the club a few million, and West Brom should learn from this. Club loyalty is not his thing! Good ridence.
