Rams chairman denies Jewell rift

Mon 18 Aug, 02:36 PM

Derby chairman Adam Pearson has been angered by reports of a fall-out with boss Paul Jewell, describing the story as "absolute rubbish".One Sunday newspaper claimed the two had clashed over signing new players and added that Jewell now has four matches to save his job.

"There is not a scrap of truth in any of it, it is absolute rubbish," Pearson told the Derby Evening Telegraph. "I would not normally comment on such rubbish but it is such an out-of-order story and so inaccurate that I feel I must comment.

"I can categorically say I have never had an argument or disagreement with Paul in nine months. It is as strong a relationship as I have had with a manager in the 10 years I have been dealing with managers.

"We have backed Paul with 13 new signings. We have changed the entire backroom staff and the academy set-up. I would tend to suggest that shows we are all here for the long term.

"The report is mischief-making but things like this will only ensure that the relationship becomes stronger."
