Agent Still Has Arshavin Hope

Mon 18 Aug, 02:09 PM

Andrei Arshavin's agent remains confident that his client will still make a move to Tottenham.

Spurs have been chasing the Russian star for most of the summer, but the Premier League side had seemingly backed away after failing to agree a fee with Zenit St Petersburg.

But Arshavin's agent Dennis Lachter still feels the move could go through before the end of the month.

"Zenit asked for €25million (£19.7million) for the transfer of Arshavin, this is the last price of the team," Lachter told Sky Sports News.

"Four days ago in a private meeting with one of the Tottenham representatives, it was take it or leave it, that is the last price.

"I have got to talk with president of Zenit, Alexander Dukov, if he wants to buy somebody he needs to sell somebody, so he is pushing for Zenit himself to sell Andrei as he understands the contribution of the player.

"We still have a lot of time and from my experience a lot of deals are finalised close to the end of the window, so we will see."

Zenit also told Sky Sports News that they expect a decision from Spurs on Monday - although sources at White Hart Lane suggest that is wide of the mark.

Indeed, it is believed Spurs have switched their targets elsewhere, with further reports in Russia suggesting Arshavin's countryman Roman Pavlyuchenko is higher on their wanted list.

Some Russian sources have claimed Spurs are close to striking a deal with Spartak Moscow, but neither side has confirmed this.

  1. Roxy, you don't have to worry about that in 3 years + he will be in his 30s and United aren't interested in old players. Having said that we took Sheringham off you at 32 so you can never be too careful.

Spurs are indeed a feeder club for United but they are well fed, they have made an absolute fortune out of their dealing with United and that has consolidated their status as a top ten club. I don't know why Spurs fans complain!

  3. These transfers always go down to the wire. It's called brinkmanship. Levy is trying to squeeze every last lira out of United while haggling over peanuts with Zenit. The man is a disgrace! What United have offered is perfectly reasonable and what Zenit are asking for is not much at all and considerably less than what they will be getting for Berbatov.

Levy just wants to strut around like a demented peacock!

  4. it's all to late, arshavin is not coming to spurs and berbatov is not going to utd. spurs performance against boro has shown them they cannot take any risks by selling berba and hoping to get another striker before the window closes. i think everyone will have to wait until january now.

  5. Every other poxy article I read is about what Arshavins agent has to say. One day he's hopeful, one day he's not, one day he's got grey socks on, etc, etc, etc. I'm sure this clown has made more than Zenits asking price doing interviews. B****y parasite.
