Spurs Not Bowing To Berbatov

Mon 18 Aug, 05:09 PM

Dimitar Berbatov wants his future sorted out as soon as possible but Tottenham appear in no hurry to force a deal despite the Bulgaria striker handing in a formal transfer request.

It is understood that Berbatov handed in his request on Friday to sporting director Damien Comolli and chairman Daniel Levy, the day before he was named on the bench in the 2-1 defeat at Middlesbrough.

Earlier in the summer, Levy feared Berbatov would have a negative influence on the dressing room after making it clear he wanted to leave for Manchester United.

United had a bid of £20.5million rejected last month and have not made another formal offer, although Tottenham have insisted they do not want to sell.

However, the transfer saga has entered a crucial stage following Berbatov's request, followed by comments on his arrival for international duty.

"I'm now in Tottenham but no-one can disagree with me wanting to follow my dream," said Berbatov, who told reporters he wanted everything sorted by the end of the week. Tottenham's stance means that is unlikely to happen.

The 27-year-old, as captain of Bulgaria, was expected to fulfil media duties ahead of the friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Wednesday but did not face the cameras.

  1. does any1 agree that we shud bring dean ashton into spurs as he is young english and full of talent that will only flourish under ramos as ramos did wiv kanoute at seville. berbatov is a class act and the way he is acting he should b sold especially after he said last year that all he wanted was 2 win trophies and then we won the carling cup

  2. Fauxcanard, I agree totally, Man Utd are to blame for turning his head in the first place, and after doing that they want him on the cheap. If they had said to Spurs they wanted to speak to the player, they would have told them to take a hike, but they did'nt and so now we have all this turmoil. The fact is though, berba has shown his loyalty and it leaves a lot to be desired. Now all i'm saying is that if Man Utd don't offer the money then sell him to a team that will like Barca. Get rid of him now and get someone in now before the transfer market closes.

  3. If he is going to leave spurs then sell him to barca in a part exchange for eto'o! Don't sell him to utd! I would rather sell him to barca for 25m than to utd for 30m, but eto'o would be an ideal replacement for berbatov. Or villa!! Splash the cash levy.

  4. because he is still under contract at spurs, talk about man utd hypocrites, all the fuss about ronaldo going to real madrid when he has 3 years left on his contract, and how fergie put his foot down about him leaving, now there after berbs who is still contracted to spurs. he should work out his time at spurs. also remember utd started the talks about getting him.

  5. Barba loves the easy life, wants silver but don't want to fight for it. he has a contract, so sit his @#$% on the bench ontill spurs get the 30M for him. Becouse he will be on the bench at man u any way, so let him get use to it. Barbatov is a p*£$?.

  6. I wonder if Baby Berbatov knows what he will be going into if he goes to Man. U? Remember, Man.U. had a FAR GREATER talent in another D.B. , who now plays in the U.S.A.. He was C...PED on by the Man.U. managment. I am, and have always been a life long Tottenham fan(68 yrs.), but I would not be sorry to see the back of Berbatov at the moment. His attitude MUST be having some effect on the rest of the team.

  8. is berbatov going to do a gareth barry and commit to villa as the proposed transfer didnt happen, if man utd don't come up with the cash is berbatov going on strike or sulk, the fans will want him gone if he dont just do a barry, as much as i'd like him to stay, i wouldn't want him dragging the team down, we are not berbatov hotspur

  9. if i was ramos i would sell him for 22m or so with add ons and if its berba dream move ramos will get the full amount of money if he goes to man utd and is a flop then tottenham have made a good profit and have a better replacement so add ons is the best way to go i think and bring this boring situation to a close

  10. I think its time spurs let this childish man go , he will in time bring the moral of the team down. Let him go and sit on the bench of Man U !!!!!!!

  11. You'd be a very foolish businessman to sell something below it's market value just to get rid of it.

  12. If Spurs are paying his wages then he should be playing for them and scoring goals. If he wants to play for Manc U then they will have to offer Spurs the right money which is £30m (at least 28m). They don't appear to want to do that, and Alex F aint stupid, he can clearly see the player has a personell problems, he is lazy, often his heart is not in the team, but supremely gifted but until he sorts out his atitude I don't think the Red Devils will be interested.

This could all have been sorted if Man Utd had offered the right money, they didn't and still haven't, they don't seem to want him that much so blame them.

From Fauxcanard, on Tue 19 Aug 9:07AM
  14. For god sake spurs, just get rid and move on. The sooner you get rid of this waste of space the sooner someone else can come in to replace him. Why on earth do you want to hold on to a player that clearly does'nt want to be a spurs player, get someone who wants to wear the shirt. Get it sorted.
