The Brazil international has successfully undergone surgery, according to Atleti. He suffered the injury on Monday during a training session, but it is not believed to be serious.
"The cruciate ligament is still fine, which is good news," doctor Pedro Guillen said after examining the knee. "The reconstructed knee [from a 2004 operation] is in perfect condition.
"We have operated one around 30 per cent of the internal meniscus; the outer membrane is fine.
"He should be in full training in around four weeks."
Motta - who is set to start his physiotherapy immediately - had only just made his debut for Atletico in the 1-1 draw against Real Murcia on Sunday after moving from Barcelona.
