NBA - Heat to retire number 10 jersey

The Miami Heat announced they will retire the number 10 jersey of former guard Tim Hardaway.

The five-times All-Star, played for six of his 13 seasons in the NBA with the Heat. He becomes the second Miami player to have his jersey retired following Alonzo Mourning.

"We feel that Tim has been one of those building blocks (of the franchise) and one of those players who has done us proud and we feel he is most deserving of having this special honour," said Heat president Pat Riley.

Chicago native Hardaway, 43, played for the Heat from 1996 to 2001 and had brief spells with the Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets and Indiana Pacers before retiring in 2003 with 15,373 career points.

Hardaway's jersey will formally be retired before the season opener against the New York Knicks on October 28.
