Elite League leaders Nottingham Panthers were hit for six in Cardiff as the Devils secured an emphatic 6-2 victory.

Panthers took the lead early when Cameron Mann swept home after less than three minutes, but Gerad Adams's team responded quickly and in style.

Wes Jarvis equalised with a five-on-three powerplay strike and Matt Miller put the hosts in the lead.

Canadian forward Tylor Michel scored a shorthanded goal early in the second period and Miller added his second as the Devils established total control.

Panthers paid the price for their penalties Cardiff talisman Brad Voth scored another five-on-three powerplay with seconds left of the second period.

Nottingham looked stunned by the blitz, which continued after the restart when Max Birbraer swept home Cardiff's sixth goal, again from a powerplay.

And not even a late David Clarke consolation could lift the mood of Panther head coach Corey Neilson, whose glum expression would have not been improved on hearing nearest rivals Coventry had beat Hull Stingrays.

Blaze moved to within striking distance of the league leaders with a hard-fought 5-4 win.

Elsewhere, there were weekend Challenge Cup wins for Belfast Giants who thrashed Edinburgh Capitals 9-2 and Sheffield Steelers, who beat Newcastle Vipers 6-4.
