World Cup - Paper Round: Capello throws wobbler

Eurosport - Sun, 18 Oct 10:55:00 2009

It is no secret that Fabio Capello is a stickler for the rules, but a furious outburst has left the England squad shocked - and scared.

According to the News Of The World, the feisty Italian was sent into a rage when he spotted one of his players secretly texting during a meal while the team were in Ukraine for their World Cup qualifier.

The unidentified player felt the full force of Capello's fury as he hurled a metal serving tray against a wall before turning to the rest of the squad and telling them in no uncertain terms that he would not tolerate any further breaches of discipline.

Gulp. If any of his players were unsure just who was boss, they certainly know now. Scary stuff indeed.

Another man struggling with his emotions of late has been Emmanuel Adebayor, whose departure from Arsenal seems to have triggered some kind of self-control meltdown.

And the Manchester City striker has been at it again, this time while on international duty with Togo last week.

The News Of The World reveals that Adebayor asked to be substituted in Togo's World Cup qualifier against Cameroon after twice lashing out at former Arsenal team-mate and Alex Song

Over to Manu to explain: "When I realised my nasty side was taking over I asked the coach to take me off. If I had stayed on the pitch I just do not know what would have happened."

It may seem like another random act of lunacy from Adebayor but his actions are perfectly natural given he considered Song "like a little brother" when the pair were together at Arsenal. After all, what are little brothers for, if not to kick lumps out of?

Given his public yearnings to play for Barcelona, inevitably there is more transfer speculation involving Robinho today, with the News Of The World putting an interesting spin on the situation.

The paper claim City are ready to offload the troublesome star, who has now served his purpose at the club having only been brought to Eastlands as the much-needed marquee player to kick-start the club's revolution.

Job done, City are prepared to cash in, allowing Mark Hughes to concentrate on moulding his own squad with players he himself has handpicked.

Meanwhile, the Brazilian has urged Manchester City to sign compatriot Ramires - at any cost (Sunday Mirror). Which is a bit weird, considering Robinho does not seem to care to much about staying beyond the new year.

Anyway, the midfielder Ramires moved to Benfica for £7.5 million in the summer and reportedly has a £30m escape clause in his contract with the Portuguese giants. But since when has money been an issue for City?

In other news, David Sullivan has been approached by 14 clubs since he quit Birmingham, all of whom are looking to secure his financial backing and business acumen (Sunday Mirror).

And finally, the same paper also reports that Brazil will pocket a massive £4m for next month's friendly with England in Qatar, while the FA will get just £400,000 as an appearance fee.

FIFA should change the rule such that managers can only manage their OWN nation - if managers are not important to the COMPETITION, then why are foreign managers employed/paid a fortune?! And, as I've said in verse, modern club-football is even more of a farce, in even more need of REGULATIONS! Remember when it was mostly-locals verses mostly-locals in MEANINGFUL competition..?

Heavens above. Threw his tray? Does anyone think this is a normal reaction, even from a strict discipliniarian? If a teacher did this in class there would be ructions. I feel very sorry for the England players having to live in such fear. They must dread the International Breaks.
