Colchester boss Aidy Boothroyd was left frustrated as his high-flying side saw their promotion hopes dented by a 1-1 draw away to League One strugglers Wycombe.
Jon-Paul Pittman's late strike cancelled out Kayode Odejayi's early opener to rescue a badly needed point for the Chairboys.
Boothroyd said: "That was a big lesson for us that we have still got to get better, but I've said all along this is a work in progress.
"The warning signs were there at the end and I was very disappointed that we let a long ball beat all the players, it was very poor end to the game for us really.
"They had a new manager coming in and everybody here was up, but having taken the lead we should have gone on and won it so I am sure it feels like a win for Wycombe."

Just when are we going to learn how to THRASH these bottom teams???? Wycome bottom of league we scrape a one all draw!!!!! Tranmere second from bottom (if you take away Soton who started 10 points adrift) what do we do, a 1 all draw. It's just not god enough!!!!!
The Us left points on the table again... How long do club and supporters have to wait for 'work in progress' to be completed?
