Hereford manager John Trewick lauded his team's work ethic following their 1-0 victory against Chesterfield at Edgar Street.
Defender Ryan Valentine clinched the Bulls' third league win of the season when he coolly slotted home a penalty after Rob Page fouled Mark Marshall in the area.
"There was plenty of excitement at both ends of the pitch and a great game for the fans to watch and a great result for us," he said.
"The players put in a lot of graft and got a great result at the end of it.
"We could have been three or four up but I was a bit concerned after 25 minutes because I thought we had dominated the game until then. We knew that there would be a period in the game when we would have to defend and sure enough it happened.
"It happened after we had scored and had gone 1-0 up but for some reason we took our foot off the gas a bit and handed the initiative to the opposition."
