Warnock laughs off fisticuffs

Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock insists his side deserved their point after they earned a 1-1 draw at Cardiff in a game which saw tempers flare after the final whistle.

The visitors had the better of the opening exchanges and took the lead in the eighth minute when former Bluebird Alan Lee headed a cross back into the danger area, where City captain Mark Hudson headed into his own net.

Cardiff pulled level after 19 minutes when Chris Burke's initial shot was deflected and Whittingham side-footed home his eighth goal of the season.

Both sides seemed to have grievances to air and when the 90 minutes were up tempers flared, with Michael Chopra and Shaun Derry at the heart of the rumpus.

Players were dragged apart only for the feud to reignite in the tunnel as the players left the field, but Warnock said: "They didn't deserve to beat us and if any punches were thrown they would probably have missed. I was very pleased with the performance and disappointed we didn't win as we had a few chances.

"It's very difficult playing here as Cardiff are a very good side, but we didn't lay down and they had to earn everything against us."

  1. Mr Warnock has lost the plot! Racism should not be tolerated in any form in society and maybe this case has been escalated by the fact there was problems with this match last season with a Palace player putting Roger Johnson in Hospital with "lose use of an elbow" so any spark was likely to trigger this, but we need to clean up the game, and just think about Warnock!!!
