Powell Seeking Bathwick Compensation

Tue 18 Nov, 11:09 PM

Sir Bathwick could bid to gain some compensation at Ascot on Saturday after narrowly missing the cut for the Paddy Power Gold Cup.

Brendan Powell's charge was the reserve runner for last weekend's Cheltenham feature but he did not get an outing as no horses were pulled out the day before the race.

The Lambourn handler is now mulling a crack at the Amlin 1965 Chase with the nine-year-old but he is waiting to see whether Paul Nicholls intends to run Oslot and Oumeyade before committing to the race.

He said: "I've put him in the race but if Paul Nicholls runs his, we'll be out of the handicap and I would probably save him for Newbury the following week as there's a couple of two-and-a-half-mile races there.

"I was gutted to miss out on the Paddy Power last week. He was taken out at 10.30am on the Friday and then there was a non-runner on the day.

"We'd have been happy to wait until 9am on the day but that's the rules.

"The ground would have suited him and we were disappointed to miss out."
