Fabio Capello has insisted that England players injured just before an international must report for checks by a national team doctor.

FOOTBALL England Fabio Capello - 0

England manager Fabio Capello has laid down the law to clubs and insisted that players who are injured the match before an international will have to report for checks by a national team doctor before pulling out.

The Italian's squad for the friendly in Germany, already looking thin, was further hit when midfielders Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard were hurt in weekend Premier League games.

Gerrard was asked to travel from Liverpool to London for a check by an England doctor before being excused while Chelsea's Lampard was also examined.

Capello said he was satisfied both were unfit to play but added everyone in future would be required to undergo the same checks in similar circumstances.

"The players are injured, that's the only problem," he said at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. "Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand didn't play at the weekend so they could never be in the squad.

"We checked Gerrard and Lampard. This will be the rule for future games. The doctor will check the condition of the players."

David Beckham, Michael Owen, Emile Heskey and Joe Cole are among the other players England were unable to consider because of injury or fitness concerns, leaving the manager little option but to experiment.

"I'm happy because tomorrow some players that play very well in the Premier League can play a very important game against a big team and I can check the confidence and the performance of these players," Capello said.

"I hope to learn a lot, even in a friendly game.

"To me there are no friendlies. The only friendly is the training session before the match."

They will also expect to play in the FULL Internationals!Theres a saying up North that goes like, if you can`t shovel coal then don`t expect a Fire! Another thing Donnae @#$% a @#$%!

  4. friendlies are the ONLY way to get the "TEAM" together like it or lump it. Provided they are serious countries (like Germany and Holland and even the Frogs) then players must be forced to show up even on a bloody stretcher. It is not always about fiitness, it is about bonding and being a team. Fabio has more interest in this than previous managers and he is absolutely right

  6. And so it should be. Im convinced there are too many pull outs from make believe injuries, but Capello should be able to check up on the players and make his own decision. He's got a job to do aswell.

"who dose capello think he is he does not have the right to demand players should attend there doctor if the players club doctor say the player is injured that should be enough after all it is the clubs that pay the players wages to many players get injured playing in stupid friendlies at this time of year and it is the clubs and players that suffer."

So DUMBA$$ if you want to work on the "side" after your regular job you cant do that because your first job pays for most of your bills so if you get hurt by doing something in your free time you should pay back the employer that pays most of your bills? You work for the team as a player they do not own you. Your country gave your mom and dad a place to fu** so you can come out and even be employed is there something you owe to your country???? My God what is the world coming to when the English are not even proud anylonger....

  10. if u don't want to play in in 'stupid' friendlies, u better not play in competitive matches also.. Capello thinks passion is the most important thing.. So he don't want players to skip friendlies in the name of injury..

  11. This always happens, players pulling out at the last minute for a freindly, all seems a bit dubious to me. Fair play on Capello no one should take it for granted playing for England. People want England to be successful but if we never have a full strength side for games like this how do we develop a side that consistently plays well together? A few good results and everyone thinks we're world beaters.
