Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has been given a two-match touchline ban and fined £10,000 for improper conduct.
Ferguson was reprimanded for marching on to the Old Trafford pitch to remonstrate with referee Mike Dean during United's Premier League clash with Hull City on November 1.
The United boss was unhappy with the official's decision not to dismiss the already-booked Michael Turner after the Tigers defender upended Michael Carrick in the second half.
United won the match 4-3 but Ferguson admitted the charge and will now have to watch the champions' Carling Cup tie against Blackburn and the Premier League clash with Sunderland from the stands.
A statement on the FA's website said: "The touchline ban will come into effect from December 2. In reaching its decision, the Commission took into account Ferguson's admission of the charge and his previous disciplinary record."
Ferguson found himself in trouble with the authorities on several occasions last season, twice after games with Portsmouth.
At Fratton Park, he blasted Steve Bennett for sending off Cristiano Ronaldo while back at Old Trafford for an FA Cup tie he labelled Martin Atkinson "a disgrace".
While the latter charge of improper conduct was not proven, the fiery Scot landed himself with a two-match touchline ban and a £5,000 fine for a rant at Mark Clattenburg after a defeat at Bolton later in the season.
Ferguson became the second Premier League manager of the day to fall foul of the FA's disciplinary commission after Everton boss David Moyes was fined £5,000 for improper conduct relating to an incident during the Premier League game against Stoke in September.

del oi.
i agree with most of whats been said, i fully agree that it does need
replay tv s on all pitches this would stop nearly all disputes on all games. why dosnt the f. a. get with the times.......
next time straight away go whack the player who hurts any manu players! dun worry if anyone asks we'll say u din do it... lolz
Vid replays are essential and the only fair way of playing the game, considering the amount of money that can be won or lost. Would you trust one mans judgement on the fact you win or lose 18 million, especially when you know his judgement could be very flawed? Again as with the respect campaign its easily controlled and sorted out. Vid replays on dubious penalty calls, and vid replays for ball going over the goal line. Thats all, thats it. Tough Penalty decisions happen about once every 3 games if that and uncertain balls crossing over the goal line happen even less. The free flowing game would still be itact and fair judgements would be called.
should not ban him! put him in the middle of the pitch with chains on him and let schoolboys kick balls at him
To those that moan and ask for tv replays your all silly. You expect the game to be free flowing, most of it will be stop start, stop start, stop start. Most refs get the job done right, not all can get it right all the time. If Fergie wants to moan let him, its his pocket that suffers not yours. I often complain on watching refs when watching tv but its all part of the game and gives you a chance to scream out who is right or may be wrong. When i'm screaming 'you silly ref' my wife makes a cuppa, calms me down, waits for the next time and at the end shouts out 'Why didn't you buy a ticket and go to the match' Thats better than complaining about fergie is it not?
mcplucker, you need to get things correct, fergie is not going soon and most his team is better than a mug like you. Grow up and talk proper football instead of riot material.
i am a liverpool fan and i think the point every bitter fan is missing is there is no one above the game and managers like players should conduct themself's properly on and off the pitch allthough some times the refs @#$% it up if the refs want and i qoute "respect" why dont they get big screen tv's fitted in all prem stadiums and on big decitions like penlty's stop the game and replay it on the big screen to show the player why. And then he can make his decition on fact not what he dident see and then no one could give him abuse and inturn he would earn respect.
Refs should have a thicker skin, and stop being such namby pamby nonses who cant take a bol**cking which they all deserve from time to time.
HAHAHAHAHA FERGUSON YOU JOCK GANGSTER ITS YOUR LAST SEASON INIT
YER WALKING AWAY POSS SO NOW AT THE END OF THE SEASON WITH NO EUROPE NO CUPS NO GLORY ALSO 1/2 A SQUAD AS YER KEY PLAYERS ARE POSS COMEING TO THERE END OF THERE CAREER AS YOUR CLUB AT THE THEARTRE OF DOOM IS SKINT AND KWISTIAN WONALDO WONT BE LONG BEFOR IS PACKIN HIS BAG TO GO TO MADRID & WAYNE WOONEY GOES TO EVERTON ALSO SO GET OUT OF FOOTBALL YA WAISTER AND ROT IN HELL
Hey folks always say it as it is...........if i were the administrator, i would not post so many a comment that appear here. The fact is that Ferguson is culpable and he has bee given touchline ban in the past to little effect. I ask what is the use of punishing a man that refuses to change his ways.......... SIR Alex has gone way out of line on so many occasions and the FA should come out with a kind of punishment that will get old Fergie thinking when next he chooses to assault a ref.
FERGUSON?HAHAHA...LIKE A TEDDY BEAR..
MAKE IT TROUBLE EVERY GAME..
He should be banned from chewing gum
Interesting.
"...Commission took into account Ferguson's admission of the charge and his previous disciplinary record..." and all they came up with was a 10k fine and a 2 match touchline ban? So how bad does his disciplinary record have to be to get some sort of real sanction? And what form would that sanction take? What can the Commission actually do to a manager in these situations?
So much for the RESPECT campaign.
to be honest i aint suprised either of them were moaning at the 4th official. i dont really know how some refs and linesman even get their badges cos some are so shocking. i think its about time video evidence came in now cos there seem to be more shocking decisions each wk.so if anyones a joke.. its the fa.
and NO im not a utd fan, im a villa fan! mike riley (who i have to say is a shocking ref!) should have awarded a free kick to arsenal for our 2nd goal the wkend, obv i dont mind but if i was an arsenal fan id have been going mad.
cockneytc
it is about standards so let us start by setting an example here and talk football
like real fans and not like the reporters on the daily mail
barratt
Fergy, you old sot, git over urself and keep ur fingers in ur pockets and ur feet and mouf away from the Referee.
hhhhhhhhahahahahah That C.U.N.T !! LOL Disgrace to footie!
Dear fem_dee,
Interesting and no doubt accurate but not really addressing the issue. The fact is that there needs to be some standards in the game we all love and Sir Alex should be setting an example.
Dear barratt442,
This is about Football and about setting standards!
Everybody can say wat they like, they are all jealous of Manu success ban or no ban we remain the champion and other teams should strive hard achive MANU feet UNITED for life
