Three the magic number for Robins

Tue 18 Dec, 04:30 PM

Cheltenham boss Keith Downing has revealed he hopes to sign a defender, a central midfielder and a left winger in the January transfer window.Despite Scott Brown being close to a return, the Robins are short of options on the left flank since Jennison Myrie-Williams' loan spell ended, while centre-back Michael Townsend and midfielder John Finnigan are both currently sidelined.

"We have looked at the wide position on the left," Downing told the Gloucestershire Echo. "Scotty can fill that gap and he will be like a new signing, but we are looking at that area in particular.

"We are already scouting players so a list can be drawn up for the chairman. We are thin on the ground in the centre of defence and, depending on Michael's progress, that's an area we may have to look at.

"Central midfield is another position we need to strengthen because John could leave a void for three months."
