'Anxious' Pools upset Wilson

Sat 19 Jan, 02:30 PM

Hartlepool boss Danny Wilson described Pools' first-half performance in the 2-0 defeat to Cheltenham as the worst he had ever seen by his side.Top scorer Steve Gillespie was Town's hero with two goals that earned the Robins only their second away win of the season.

Wilson said: "Our first-half performance was the worst I've seen since I came to the club.

"We were lucky to still be in the game at half-time, and I told the players that. In the second half we got better, but we couldn't finish and in the end we paid the penalty.

"This was a major kicking for us both performance-wise and result-wise, and now it's a matter of how we react to it. We looked anxious and seemed afraid to play as we know we can. We know we are better than that.

"It was so poor that I'm convinced that we won't see it again, and it's up to the players to prove me right in that respect."
