The goal came in the third period after Kyle Wanvig and Chris Gratton had first-period scores.

Lightning netminder Johan Holmqvist made 27 saves for the shutout victory.

Stafford scored once in Buffalo's four-goal first period, then added two goals in the third. He also assisted on both of Roy's two first-period goals. Roy got his hat trick with a second-period score and also had an assist.

Eric Staal scored three goals, one of them on a penalty shot, and Rod Brind'Amour added a goal and two assists as the Carolina Hurricanes broke a four-game losing streak with a 7-2 home victory over the Edmonton Oilers.
