Sharp: The goals will come

Tue 19 Feb, 02:15 PM

Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp is hoping the goals will start to flow again under new manager Kevin Blackwell.Sharp has scored only twice since returning to his hometown club in the summer - he hit 32 last season for Scunthorpe - but Blackwell recalled the 22-year-old to the starting line-up for Sunday's FA Cup stalemate with Middlesbrough.

Sharp said: "I didn't have the best of starts to the season. It was very stop-start, but I felt that I never got the chance to prove myself.

"I've worked under Kevin before and enjoyed it. My confidence is coming back and if I get the chance to play, hopefully the goals will follow.

"The Gaffer asked me to do a job and I thought I did OK. He said he wanted to play 4-4-2 and me to play as a box striker. That's my strength, but I also like to work for the team as well.

"I thought we all did very well and worked hard as a unit. The defence were brilliant, everyone kept running and I was pleased with my own work-rate."
