Chisora to be charged over Haye brawl

German police will press charges against Dereck Chisora after an ugly brawl with fellow British heavyweight boxer David Haye following a WBC title clash in Munich on Saturday night.

Saturday's incident, which left Haye's manager Adam Booth with nasty facial cuts, erupted during a news conference after Ukrainian Vitali Klitschko had retained his WBC heavyweight belt with a unanimous points decision over Chisora. Haye attended the fight as a television pundit.

Chisora was later released, but Bavarian police spokesman Gottfried Schlicht confirmed that the boxer will face charges after being arrested and questioned shortly before he had been due to depart from the airport.

"The police are pressing charges against Chisora for bodily injury but that is not a reason for him to stay in prison," Schlicht said half about half an hour after the boxer had been released from custody.

Police did not know Haye's whereabouts.

Chisora mocked Haye, who was covering the fight for television, for his poor performance in losing to Vitali's brother Wladimir last year and tried to talk him into an all-British fight after the Klitschkos' manager said the brothers were finished with British fighters after protestations from Haye at the back of the room.

Chisora said: "David, how's your toe" repeatedly, in reference to the excuse Haye used in losing to Wladimir, and said: "David, you and me can get it on in London. Be quiet."

"David Haye is an embarrassment. Sky Sports don't do Box Office because of David Haye. He messed up Box Office for all the young fighters and I'm going to give him two slaps for that.

"If David Haye is a fighter he should fight me. Let's fight, me and you."

The two eventually faced up to each other before grappling around the room.

Chisora claimed that Haye "glassed" him and then appeared to grab a bottle himself.

According to the Press Association, after Haye and Chisora were separated, Haye became involved in a fight with a member of Chisora's entourage in which both men threw punches. During that incident Haye appeared to grab a television tripod and in the melee his trainer and manager Booth was seen later with his forehead cut.

Reporters fled the scene while security tried to separate the men, according to AP.

In the aftermath, a fuming Chisora threatened to "shoot" Haye.

Before Chisora's goading of Haye, Bernd Boente, the Klitschkos' manager said: "With the bad experience we've had with British fighters we will now look for other countries.

"Contrary to David Haye, Dereck Chisora really went for it and really tried."

To this Haye replied: "You don't want to fight David Haye, no?"

You are out. Out, out, out. You cannot talk yourself back into the fight, you have no belts. Chisora showed heart, contrary to you. You showed your toe."

Wladimir Klitschko, who witnessed the drama, told the BBC: "I'm totally disappointed, it went a little too far, the sport of boxing shouldn't be like that.

"Bloody faces in the press conference... fighting in the ring, not out. I'm really surprised."

Chisora later tweeted: "I'll fight David Haye. I gave him the mic and he glassed me so 1 to him and 1 to me."

Chisora also caused controversy before the fight by spitting water into the face of Wladimir. He was also fined $50,000 for slapping Vitali during a face-off after the fight's weigh-in.

  1. All this has done is to wake the sleeping bigots up to give them an opportunity to express their true feelings. In sadistic way, at least we know how many sleeping bigots there are now!!

  2. Chisora should be suspended or banned from boxing. I am disgusted by his spittng water into the face of Klitschko - what sort of message is that to send out to young boxers?
Haye at this time is outside the British Boxing Board for punishment. However he should not be allowed to return to the ring. The behaviour of Chisora and Haye was disgrasful. I would not expect to see Haye representing any media organisation again. I await the result of police investigations.

  3. 1277 cannot figure out politics is not the same as boxing. That Hayes and Chisora brawled does not make them ZANUPF or Zimbabweans! There are registered British boxers, period!
Let fine sportspersons like TCoventry, Muzhingi,Lewis Banda,NMakusha etc etc etc lift the Zimbabwe flag high in sport!
We do not need any impersonators from Britain to claim Zim origins.
Worse still fans for bad losers like Chisora/Hayes mix politics and sports,

  4. TJ - I'm with you to a certain extent. No one really expects footballers to act like gentlemen nowadays.

Shame really with boxing. The thing has always been that it's a combat sport with respectful participants. I've always defended boxing against those naive people who think it's just "one man hitting another man" - they don't understand that a major part of boxing is the art of NOT getting hit.

But it becomes very hard to defend the sport with behaviour like this.

  5. both boxers should be ashamed of themselfs i boxed when i was in the army and it taught you manners and dignity to the other boxers you fought the money he got for boxing should be retained by the boxing board and hayes should be kicked of of sky. full stop. dave brown

  6. Buck these are boxers, supposed to be an honourable sport where they leave it in the ring. Men with a little class. Footballers are paid ridiculous amounts of money for kicking a ball about and probably think they are gods gift to the game or they came from a council estate and don't know how to deal with it. Chisoras coach should have known better. Freddie Roach wouldn't get into like that. They were acting like two guys in the street, not professional boxers.

  7. Also I love the way everyone's on about Chisora and how he's from Zimbabwe and less civilised blah blah and all that guff where it was actually Haye who provoked this to my eye - and he doens't have that excuse does he? Even worse. The guy acted like a complete prat. Not to say Chisora was behaving any better, but this does seem to have been provoked by Haye (who's always been a prat).

Standing there with a beer bottle mouthing off, he looked no better than the average chav you get in a nightclub.

Black boxers? Give me Robinson, Leonard, Ali, Lewis, etc. - these guys prove how sophisticated and elegant the black boxer can be and rather disprove these racist comments.

  8. @Philip Post no. 1271 -

What you conveniently fail to mention is that a lof the white faces are extremely badly behaved, especially in football where a lot of them act like complete animals, and get away with it as well. Rape, fighting in clubs, drugs, violence, the whole lot.
And I guess these white lads don't even have the excuse of coming from somehwere "rougher" - they have no excuse at all to act like that.
Footballers in particular are like a load of retarded cavemen.

Philip i must say now you are full of sh....t something triggered the riot as much as im against it started with a protest of which every sensible person in the uk knows if the police had handed the shooting plus the after well it wouldnt have caused any riot and what were white people involving themselves anyway if they a clean as you imply shooting of a black person makes people like you happy isnt it, you are, u did a lot in africa so you wouldnt see what is wrong with it anyway

  13. Uzanne - I'll drop you in the heart of Chitingwiza, just for a day or I'll drop you for a few hours in the heart of the Diamond Fields in Zimbabwe. Then let's see if you tell us to shut up - I doubt if you'll come out alive, depending on what side you are on or who's side you support! Your arrogance & ignorance leaves a lot to be desired. What I am trying to point out is... this is why the likes of Chisoro behave the way they do. They got away with it in Zimbabwe due to the lack of law and order and they think that they can get away with this type of behaviour in Europe. He has that adopted "thug tendancy" and he has brought the sport into disrepute. He must be punished for it and the best punishment would be to send him back to Zimbabwe, where this type of behaviour occurs on a daily basis!!!

you are just bitter i dont like mugabe because i believe in equal rights and whites didnt give that i believe a whiteman born in zimbabwe has all the right as black , the bitterness that is making mugabe do what he is doing is in you as well because you didnt get your way, I am sure your familly had it all in zimbabwe lording it over blacks and losing it is causing bitterness, but dont you think if white people had given mugabe and his likes the chance white and black wouldnt be living harmony by now especially after all the hard work you have put in country but supremacy blinded your judgement and it's still doing that

  15. Secret Face - well written. I fully agree with you - it "WAS" a Gentlemans sport until the likes of Tyson & Chisoro took it to a negative level. I was an amateur boxer in the 70's and never once did we hear or witness these dispicable acts which to any normal sportsman would have been considered unethical and unsportsman like. In fact our trainer would have kicked us out of his club and would have wanted nothing to do with us. You are right in saying that this type of behaviour encourages our youth to behave in a similar manner - hence this gang warfare / drug related culture that is sweeping across Europe & the USA. Take a look at the majority of participants in the last riots in the UK in respect of their colour. So the likes of Chisoro are certainly not setting an example and these youth believe that what they are doing is right. Secret Face, this same mentality has been adopted by Zimbabweans in general with total disrespect for the law. They will gang up on individuals and beat them to a pulp, if not, til they die. Due to the lack of law & order these characters are seldom if ever punished for their crimes. Why? Because the majority of them are Government Supporters who have the full backing of their political masters. This has now become a daily occurance in Zimbabwe - something that most foreign folk don't get to see. It's violence of a different kind. There is no shaking hands afterwards - because the innocent opponent often ends in a coffin. This never happened before in Zimbabwe. And guess what - when you have trainers and promotors with political ambitions of one kind or another, you'll never return the sport of boxing to its former glory. And this is what Chisoro and his army of rogues stand for. They could not give two hoots about the contoversy surrounding this scenario nor do they give two hoots as to whether the youth follow in their unsportsmanlike footprints or not. They are an embarrasement to the sport of box

  16. Can I ask why there are all these racist comments on an article about two hooligens having a fight? What's it got to do with anything? No matter what your color, if you excell in a sport so be it! It's got bugger all to do with your race! Each and everyone of us has a tallent and should use it! I get angry sometimes it doesnt mean i have to hit, shoot or knife someone , and boxing has helped some gangsters off the streets but has it really solved the problem ?no it's a dirty game, there are so many sports out there that can help, boxing would always be around but i still cant accept it as a gentleman's game once in a while it brings in someone dirty enough person intothe game who wants to hurt, and do you think eubank had wanted to hurt watson so badly not at all but to win he had to hit as hard as possible and at that point he cant be a gentleman and say i dont want to hurt or he would be himself . you cant justify it ever

  19. Comrade AJ - Zimbabwe has been Independant for close on 32 years. You will never stop blaming the white folk - so what, it's history and boring now! Remember one thing Comrade, the white folk brought with them both good and bad. There is no denying that. But your Mugabe has brought 95% more bad than good. So what, let him take the land/farms, who cares. There's a lot more vacant land in Africa assuming one wanted to farm. But just watching your once beautiful Country revert from having Tractors in the fields to oxen drawing pieces of wood or from having heavy equipment in your mines to seeing them digging with shovels and picks by hand and watching them move from brick buildings in the cities to mud huts in the rural areas - I now fully understand why Chisoro behaved the way he did. You've answered my questions. But! He should not be allowed to live in the UK, same as mugabe not allowing white folk to live in zimbabwe. He's made it clear and I have his conversation on tape - he doesn't want white folk in Zimbabwe. Chinese yes, but english white folk - no! Chisoro's days are numbered in the UK - you can take my word for that - we are digging!!!

From Philip, on Mon 20 Feb 17:39
  20. AJ my friend, what I have to say has everything to do with these two idiots fighting - more so Chisoro. It goes to show that he has adopted the same attitude of his ZANU PF masters back in Zimbabwe. He thinks he is above the law regardless of where he is or who he is. This is not Zimbabwe my friend. He is in Europe now. He must learn to leave his arrogant jungle tendancies behind when he travels to Europe and adapt accordingly. That is why we can't drop the" targeted " sanctions imposed on his few political masters. If they were lifted they would be using their ill gotten blood Diamond money on shopping sprees to Europe. We don't want another Mark Thatchell debacle now, do we? All I say is keep these fools in Africa my friend, where they belong. I assume you are a militant ZANU PF supporter - assuming you are living in Europe then I suggest you adopt the same moral
& social principals as my Europen counterparts and stop bucking the system - you are not in the jungles of Zimbabwe!!!
