Marseille suffer cup humiliation

Wed 19 Mar, 11:30 PM

Marseille crashed out of the Coupe de France in embarrassing fashion, falling 1-0 at amateur side Carquefou.Marseille boss Eric Gerets fielded a team which included the likes of Boudewijn Zenden and Djibril Cisse, but they were upstaged by Carquefou, who ply their trade in the fifth tier of French football.

Papa N'Doye scored the only goal of the game after seven minutes to ensure they repeated their feat of the previous round when they saw off Nancy.

The match was played in front of 20,500 people in Nantes - and they rose to give the amateurs a standing ovation after the game.

Elsewhere, Metzshrugged off their league woes to claim a 1-0 win at Lorient.

Vincent Bessat scored the only goal of the game for Ligue 1's bottom club, who have managed just four league wins all season.

Bordeaux left it late to secure a 2-0 extra-time win over Lille.

Neither side could find a way through in normal time, but substitutes Fernando Menegazzo (95) and David Bellion (114) ensured penalties were not needed.

The same was not true in the match between Amiens and Arles, which finished 1-1 after extra time, the hosts prevailing 4-2 in a shootout.
